Two suspended officials hope to get a reprieve in tomorrow’s Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Annual General Meeting to be held in Kisii, even as a delegate warned against allowing ‘fake’ officials from attending.

The proposal to lift the suspensions of former FKF Nairobi branch chairman Dan Shikanda and Hussein Terry, the former executive committee member for Coast Region, has been slotted as an agenda at the AGM.

Both proposals have been made by the FKF national executive committee. Shikanda, a former international, is serving a six-year suspension for allegedly taking the federation to court, while Terry is serving a life ban for allegedly bringing the game into disrepute.

Even as the two officials seek to be reinstated, there has been disquiet in some branches, who insist that all suspensions be done away with.

Last month, FKF Nyanza North branch chairman Joseph Andere said they would prefer that all suspensions be lifted instead of just the two. “We are wondering what criteria was used to propose the lifting of the suspension of the two officials. We prefer that all officials who are banned be allowed back,” Andere said.

Andere was referring to the suspension of former vice chairman Sammy Sholei, who is also serving a six-year ban. Sholei opted to take his appeal to the sports tribunal, which is expected to make a ruling next month.Yesterday, Shikanda maintained that he was wrongly suspended and lifting his ban would be the fairest thing to do.

“It is surprising that I was accused of having taken the federation to court yet the case has never commenced until today. I believe that lifting the ban would serve me justice at last and I look forward to that happening,” he said.

Shikanda admitted that he is aware about the disquiet over the lifting of his ban, especially from the Nairobi branch. “We had great plans to transform Nairobi and had already approached various corporates to help us.“It is unfortunate that I was not able to see through my plans following the suspension,” he said. Over the last weeks leading to tomorrow’s general meeting, Terry has been lobbying branches and other stakeholders and he expressed confidence that the ban will be lifted.

“I’m ready to come back to football and help develop the sport. I’m grateful for the national office to have given me a chance to come back into football and will not let them down,” he said.

At the same time, FKF North Coast chairman John Ngowa has warned that fake delegates should not be allowed into the meeting.

“We are concerned that some people, who are not supposed to attend the meeting, will be present especially from the clubs.

“We insist that only branch chairmen and secretaries, as well as authorised club officials, be allowed to attend, otherwise the meeting will not be legally recognised,” he said.
