Arsenal to shift out dead wood to make way for Jackson Martinez

Arsene Wenger will make a move for Porto's Colombian hotshot Jackson Martinez - but only if he can clear the decks first.

The Gunners boss is ready to offload Lukas Podolski, Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell this summer.

And that would free up cash for a £25m move and a big contract for Martinez who would bolster Arsenal 's squad for a Premier League title challenge.

Villarreal, Benfica and Real Sociedad are keen on Campbell while Sanogo was farmed out on loan to Crystal Palace.

Arsenal do want a fee for German international Podolski even though he flopped at Inter Milan and his £100,000-a-week wages could be a stumbling block.

But if Wenger can balance the books then Martinez is the striker that he wants even though there is already strong competition up front with Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott.

Wenger is ready to make moves in the market with Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin still on their radar but the emergence of Francis Coquelin means he is no longer the priority he was.

Arsenal are keen on Chelsea keeper Petr Cech but Jose Mourinho is unlikely to make it easy to do business.

Leicester have insisted young left back Ben Chilwell is not for sale but Charlton's Joe Gomez is wanted by Arsenal and a few other Premier League big guns.
