Real Madrid to raid Manchester City for first team phenomenon

Real Madrid are reportedly planning a transfer swoop for the Sergio Aguero.

Golden boot winner Aguero bagged 26 times for Manchester City last season - five more than his closest rival - and that has caught the eye of Real Madrid president Florentio Perez.

Spanish newspaper AS report that Rafael Benitez's imminent arrival as the new Bernabeu manager could signal another major acquisition on the pitch, with Aguero being the man in question this year.

In recent seasons, Madrid have made one big marquee summer signing, with Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez arriving.

Aguero is reportedly being sounded out as this year's major arrival, as Los Blancos look to inspire their front line after falling behind Barcelona in every competition this season.

After winning the Champions League last year under Carlo Ancelotti, Madrid fell short this term - and finished second in La Liga, which ultimately cost Ancelotti his job.

Benitez is set to take over after vice-president Eduardo Fernandez de Blas dropped the biggest hint yet that the Spaniard would head to the Bernabeu.

"I'll tell you one thing, Carlo Ancelotti is a real phenomenon," he said in comments reported by AS.

"We give our thanks to him. Until three days ago, he was, for me, the best coach in the world, just as two years ago it was Jose Mourinho, and as from this week will be Rafa Benitez."

Benitez set the ball rolling ahead of his prospective move to the Bernabeu by announcing his departure from Napoli last week.

Another big arrival this summer could be David De Gea from Manchester United, but De Gea has told United that he will not be discussing his future until he returns from his summer break, in which he coincidentally visited Madrid.
