KPL: Sofapaka edge out Ushuru in Machakos

Sofapaka made a late come back to edge out Ushuru 2-1 at Machakos Stadium in Sunday's Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match.
Ushuru, formerly KRA, with a vastly experienced squad went ahead in the first minute of the match and Sofapaka goalkeeper Evariste Mutuyuimana will blame himself for failing to hold a seemingly harmless shot from Moses Arita.
After going ahead, Ushuru who are in their second year of top flight football simply failed to do better and had plenty of chances to double the lead but failed to hit the target. This allowed their opponents to make a great come-back.
It started when John Barasa scored the equaliser in the 53rd minute turning to slot home Collins Shivachi's perfectly set up pass.
Shivachi himself scored the second in the 75th minute blasting home past a bewildered Odhiambo in goal.
Then Antony Ndolo was wrongly denied a third goal after beating Odhiambo in goal with a low shot. he was, however, ruled to have scored from an off-side position.
One of the surprise faces in the Ushuru squad was former Gor Mahia midfielder Moses Odhiambo. The new signing had a big miss in the 53rd minute when he failed to head home a Paul Odhiambo cross.
But after that miss, Ushuru went on the defensive and allowed their opponents to come back into the match.
Sofapaka coach Sam Timbe said Sunday's win is a big motivation for his side as they prepare to take part in next weekend's return CAF Confederation's Cup match against FC Platinum.
"We had a slow start in the match but I am glad my boys picked up and ensured we retained all three points at home. It is a big motivation for us going into the return fixture against FC Platinum," he said.
