Posta Rangers restricted Kakamega Homeboyz to a barren draw at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega, as the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF Premier League) entered their second week.

In a match that started on a slow note, Kakamega Homeboyz appeared to take the early initiative buoyed by home fans but in the end failed to take advantage of their home ground.

Once Posta Rangers got a foothold of the proceedings, it was the Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper Philip Odhiambo who worked overtime to keep the mail men at bay.

It was apparent though that both teams lacked the fitness levels this fixture demanded as they wasted numerous chances that went their way.

If the first half belonged to Posta Rangers, the second saw Kakamega Homeboyz attack with vigour. In the end, however, the sporadic raids on either side failed to yield a goal.

Both Kakamega Homeboyz and Posta Rangers coaches showed satisfaction with the barren draw in a match that had been twice rescheduled. Shabana beat Nakumatt, 1-0, on day one of the league that enjoys the backing of FKF.

“The match was tough and interesting. I am satisfied with the results and being the first game this season, we have learnt a lot that need to be worked on before we face the next team,” said Kakamega Homeboyz coach, Leonard Saleh.

He said the team has enough experience to play in the league after it was promoted by FKF when it increased the number of teams in the league from 16 to 18.

“We have experience to play in the league, we had won in our group and deserved to be promoted to play in the premier league,” he said.

Posta Rangers head coach John Kamau expressed his disappointment saying poor finishing denied his team a win.

“We expected to win this game. I did not expect a draw. We lacked coordination thus affecting our finishing,” said Kamau.

Kamau also expressed his concern over lack of clear fixtures to guide the teams on the next games.

He said lack of a proper fixture will affect performance of their teams and asked all sports stakeholders to intervene and iron out issues affecting football in the country.

“We need a clear fixture to enable us plan. All sports stakeholders should sit together and settle some of the issues affecting football,” he said.
