Two first half goals ensured that Sony Sugar continued with their bright start of the season when they beat visiting KRA 2-0 at Awendo Green Stadium yesterday.

In-form striker Edwin Oduor scored his fourth goal in four matches to give the host the lead and Naftali Okombo netted in the first half as the host comfortably overcame the debutants.

And it was Victor Omondi who provided the first goal in the 26th minute after his well timed pass was converted by Oduor to beat Philip Odhiambo in KRA’s goal.

Sony continued to dominate and were rewarded for their efforts just before halftime when the visitor’s keeper Odhiambo attempted throw out for an injury was intercepted by Okombo and the youngster, making his first start, put the ball on the back of the net to double the homeside’s advantage.

The second half was more balanced with KRA seeing more of the ball but they were unable to get away through Sony’s resolute defence.

Woes continue

At Mombasa, Bandari’s woes continued yesterday after they were beaten 2-1 by Thika United in at Mbaraki Sports Club.

The defeat was not taken lightly by Bandari fans who demanded for the team’s management to intervene and savage the team from risking relegation. Yesterday’s defeat was the fourth in a row.

Bandari lacked game plan with their striking force being a major let down in both halves despite Coach Twahir Muhiddin making some changes.

Michael Olunga silenced Bandari’s fans after he displaced custodian Wilson Oburu to beat him to place the ball into empty net in the 15th minute.

Thika were two-up in the 20th minute after Dennis Odhiambo converted a penalty awarded by referee Davis Omweno after Oburu who was yellow-carded for fouling Wycliffe Opondo in the box.

Bandari pulled one through a penalty in the 29th minute after goalkeeper Vincent Omumbo who was also yellow-carded dangerously tackled Mohammed Mwachiponi.

Muhiddin said his striking force did not click especially in the second half, saying he would continue doing his work as coach. Kamau said: “We wanted the maximum three points and we got them away,” said Kamau in a post-match interview with FeverPitch.

In Nakuru, Ulinzi Stars shared the spoils when they recorded their fifth consecutive draw against Mathare United in a tension packed match at Afraha Stadium.

Both teams displayed some good football but it was the soldiers who wasted a number of chances that could have made all the difference.

Mathare coach Stanley Okumbi said, “Snatching a point from Ulinzi in their home turf is a big feat.”

Ulinzi’s coach Salim Ali shared lauded his players for keeping instructions but rued many wasted opportunities.
