Thika Municipal Stadium risks missing out from hosting Kenyan Premier League (KPL) matches in the new season. The KPL stadiums committee chairman, Laban Jobita, warned on Thursday that unless the playing surface meets required standards, Thika United will have to play their matches elsewhere.
“We have inspected the stadium and the surface is in bad shape. Unless they do something about it, no KPL match will be played there. It is too bumpy and can lead to injuries,” said Jobita. A number of teams last season complained about the facility which seems to deteroriate every year. The stadium is owned by the county government.
