Jose Mourinho still believes Manchester United are title contenders

The Chelsea boss saw his side pull eight points clear of David Moyes’ men on Wednesday, with Everton earning victory at Old Trafford.

But despite United trailing pacesetters Arsenal by 12 points, Mourinho insists it is too soon to dismiss their chances of retaining the title.

‘If it’s another club probably I would tell you it’s impossible, but with Man United I don’t say that, because of the potential of the team and because of the coach of the club,’ the Portuguese said.

‘They are calm, they support their manager, nobody touches the manager.

‘They have a project, if they don’t win this season, they win next season.

‘And because of that I think they’re still a contender. They will stick together, they will fight.’

Four teams are currently separated by three points in pursuit of the Gunners, with Chelsea leading the chasing pack.

And Mourinho insists his main concern is ensuring his side are still in the running come the end of the season.
