Kaimosi dominate teachers ball games

Kaimosi teams dominated football competition on the second day of Kenya Teachers Colleges Sports Association (KTCSA) Ball Games in Murang’a.

It was a fruitful day for the college as its teams recorded big victories in their matches to inch closer to the semi-finals on Wednesday.

Kaimosi men displayed great game to outclass Shanzu of Coast 4-0 in an entertaining Pool ‘A’ match to record their second straight victory in the tournament.

Brian Marita was on target when he scored the match opener in the 21st minute to put Kaimosi in the driving seat.

Michael Omulama then extend the gap to 2-0 in the 39th minute to give Kaimosi comfortable half time lead.

Omulama who also turns out for Football Kenya Nationwide side Mumias Community Programme netted another when he beat his markers to slot home a skillful goal in the 57th minute before Eric Makori sealed the fate of Shanzu with a goal in the 67th minute.

Wasted chance

Kaimosi had chance to score a goal in the 63rd minute but Cyrus Orenge shot wide. Kaimosi had won their opening match with a slim but valuable 1-0 victory against Kilimambogo with Marita scoring the all-important goal.

According to Kaimosi Dutch trained coach Norbert Omogo, the team has already qualified for the semi-finals to be held on Thursday.

Kaimosi women maintained consistency after they humiliated Machakos 5-0 in a match played at the Mukuyu grounds.

Former Ibinzo High School star Fridah Agodeka scored a hattrick while Faustin Aradi and Ann Chesang contributed one goal apiece in Kaimosi’s victory.

Kaimosi had scored yet another huge victory in their opening match of the competition on Tuesday after they overcame Islamic of Coast 3-0 at Murang’a.

Top scorers

Aradi, Agodeki and Patroba Chelule scored one goal each for the winners.

Defending champions Kigari Teachers College from Embu overcame Thogoto 2-0 in yet another women’s football encounter to remain on course to retaining the trophy they won in Meru last year.

In women’s basket, Kagumo displayed spirited fight to beat Machakos 49-13 in their first match of the event.

In men’s hockey, Kericho edged out Thogoto 1-0 in a tough encounter played at Murang’a.

In men’s volleyball, Kilimambogo beat Shanzu 3-1 sets, Egoji outclassed Machakos in straight sets while Eregi ran over Machakos 3-0 in some of the matches held on the second day of the games.

The games are also featuring goal ball, a discipline that is appearing in the games for the sixth time.

The sport is meant for the visually impaired and Machakos are defending champions in both men and women competitions.

Organisers however, face a big challenge in logistic and time management over the rains, which have left several pitches sogged.

Organisers have confirmed that track and field Championships will be staged at Kigari Teachers College in Embu next month.
