Chwala, Kimanga win Dawali Golf Day and KIM events

Vicky Chawla teamed up with Chet Mukherjee to win this year’s Orange Diwali Golf Day at the par 72 Sigona Golf Club at the weekend.

The pair posted a combined score of 74 points made of Chawla’s 40 points and Mukherjee’s 34 to rule the roost.

Zahid Shokat and Jimmy Merali were the runners-up on 73 points (36, 37), while Jay Dhanani and Meer Dhanani finished third on 72 points (36, 36) and Ngige Mondo, teaming up with David Mukuria, were fourth on 70 points (37, 33). David Pkosing and Mary Karano were the guest winners on a joint score of 67 points (39,28).

Playing off handicap 26, Kimanga sunk a par on the ninth hole and registered a mixed pot of bogeys for 19 points in the outward nine, but improved with four pars and a mixture of bogeys in the rest of the holes to close the back nine on 20 points and in the process record his first major victory.

"It is unbelievable that I have won the event because I didn’t expect it, but this showsmy improvement and many more victories are on the way," said Kimanga.

He had tied on the same points with a Mombasa Lawyer Lumatete Muchai, playing off handicap 12, who settled for the Men Winner’s prize after posting 20 and 19 points respectively on each nine.

Handicap 18, Jose Tharao scored 38 points to finish second, while Samuel Kahindi, playing of handicap 3, was third placed on a count back score of 37 points.

Kenya Institute of Management, Mombasa branch sponsored the one-day stable ford tournament, which attracted golfers from Mombasa, Nyali and Leisure lodge golf clubs.

Veteran Lady golfer Dianah Munyao, playing off handicap seven, was the Lady Winner on a total score of 35 points (22, 13), while handicap 19, Akki Khan was second on 31 points. Schoolboy Mathews Wahome was the junior winner on a score of 39 points.
