The Kenya National Paralympics Committee (KNPC) is deeply entangled in another round of wrangles. Unfortunately, this is happening while athletes were expected to leave the country yesterday to take part in the Athletics World Championships in Marrakech, Morocco.

The bone of contention is that a team led by KNPC chairperson Agnes Oluoch was in charge of the trials for the international meet, while there is an Interim Committee supposed to run affairs of the federation and ironically Olouch is also a member of the team. This team was put together following a decision by the Sports Disputes Tribunal, which appointed a Mediation Committee who in turn named an Interim Committee led by Elijah Aliero.

The International Paralympic Committee recognises the Interim Committee and there is fear the team that was to leave for Morocco yesterday, for the games run from today till April 30, could do so in vain yet the government through the Ministry of Sports had catered for all their travel expenses.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time there are wrangles at KNPC. And as this happens, the athletes are suffering and talent is being wasted. While the Interim Committee was expected to help bring order, it seems that is not the case. It is therefore time that Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed took this as a matter of urgency and restored order at KNPC. The current officials seem not to have the best interests of athletes. Over to you CS Amina, crack the whip!
