Several die after truck, matatu collide head-on at Sultan Hamud

Several people are feared dead after a truck collided head-on with a 41-seater matatu at Sultan Hamud in Makueni County on Saturday evening, May 14.

Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan told The Standard that at least three bodies had been pulled out of the wreckages.

Napeiyan said the total number of those injured or killed in the crash will be updated soon.

Police arrived at the accident scene on the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway to aid in rescue exercise.

Police said the driver of the Nairobi-bound truck was overtaking other vehicles when he collided head-on with the public service vehicle.

The PSV driver was among the three people confirmed dead.

Sixteen (16) matatu passengers were injured.

Police said the victims were taken to Kilome Nursing Home for emergency treatment.
