NAROK: Veteran Narok politician William ole Ntimama's burial ceremony has been pushed from September 10 to September 14. This is meant to allow friends and relatives living abroad to attend the funeral.

Addressing the press at the late politician's home in Motonyi on the outskirts of Narok town where he is set to be buried, burial committee chairman Hassan ole Kamwaro said a requiem mass would be held at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi, on September 13 although this is unconfirmed.

"At first, the family chose September 10 as the date of burial but the committee wanted to give our hero a decent sendoff that all his friends in Kenya, Tanzania and even the United States could attend. That is why we pushed the date by four days," Mr Kamwaro said.

The former Transport and Licensing Board chairman, who was Ntimama's close friend and cousin, was accompanied by Narok Senator Stephen ole Ntutu and Narok West MP Patrick ole Ntutu.

He also revealed that the exact burial site would be identified by the family as his wishes were already documented.

He also clarified that preparations were going on both in Narok and Nairobi. The Nairobi committee is led by Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Alex ole Magelo. So far, the Maasai community has donated 15 bulls and several sheep and goats to be slaughtered during the burial.

Kamwaro also confirmed that President Uhuru Kenyatta would attend the funeral.

He said meetings were ongoing at the former Heritage minister's home until the burial day and that the media would be briefed on the progress. The national government and Samburu, Kajiado and Laikipia counties have pledged their support for the funeral budget.
