One of 40 wanted terror suspects arrested in Voi

One of the 40 Al-Shabaab terrorists wanted following an attempted raid on a military camp in Lamu was Saturday arrested in Voi, just a day after the police circulated photographs of suspects.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett said the suspect was arrested after he went to seek treatment for bullet wounds suspected to have been sustained in the exchange of fire with security officers. Fifteen people died.

The police boss said the suspect claimed that he had sustained the wounds in South Africa.

Long distance

“No one in his right mind can travel such a long distance with such wounds.

“He is being interrogated because we suspect he was shot in Lamu,” Boinett told journalists in Mombasa.

He disclosed that they had seized video footage from the terrorists killed during the operation and used it to get the https://cdn.standardmedia.co.ke/images that were circulated on Friday.

Other terrorists still on the run include German national Ahmed Mueller, reportedly a key figure in the Al-Shabaab terror unit.

It is believed by police that the German suspect was behind the attacks in last year’s Mpeketoni attacks, which claimed more than 100 lives.

A statement from the Ministry of Interior said, “He is one of the few Western foreign fighters in Al-Shabaab who survived Ahmed Godane’s purge.”

Boinett appealed to the public to be on the lookout and work with security agencies in apprehending the Al-Shabaab fugitives.
