KDF stage brilliant shows in league’s third leg in Mombasa

Kenya Defence Force reigned supreme to extend their lead during the third leg of the national boxing league at Uwanja Wa Mbuzi grounds in Mombasa.

The soldiers dominated their bouts to remain at the summit and inch closer to the title.

Nick Abaka of KDF did not disappoint after defeating Francis Ndenga of Kentrack on points to cruise to the final in the light heavy category. “It was a tough match and am happy to have won tit,” said Abaka.

Abaka was to meet Joshua Wasike of OKSA in the final last evening. Wasike dismissed Joseph Odhiambo of Prisons in the semifinals.

In light fly, Martin Maina (Thika) beat Moses Kilavuka (Prisons) to make it to the final. Benson Kyalo of Dallas beat KDF’s Abednego Kyalo to land into the final.

In fly, Charles Macharia of Dallas beat Matayo Keya of KNH while Mohammed Hussein (Kibra) floored KDF’s Kelvin Maina in the other semi final.

Hazard Nassir of Kongowea beat James Mutuli of Coast in bantam and was to meet Isaac Meja of KDF who defeated Prison’s Steven Ndungu. In ligh welter, Said Bunguani (Kongowea) beat William Kamau of Prisons while John Juma of Kibra out smarted KDF’s Robert Kithuka.

In welter weight, Michael Ochieng of Kongowea hit Kennedy Omondi of Prisons as Vincent Ouma (Kentrack) lost to Lawrence Okuta of KDF in the other semifinal.

In middle weight, Edwin Okongo (KDF) beat Sunday Sinzole (Coast) while John Hongo of Nairobi dismissed Chris Orengo of Kongowea.
