Conor McGregor has lashed out at Dana White after the UFC supremo notified the Irishman he would be stripped of his lightweight championship.

The Notorious has not fought in the octagon since winning the 155-pound title in November 2016, instead fighting Floyd Mayweather in a losing effort inside the boxing ring.

With no confirmation from the Irishman about a return to the UFC, White finally informed the face of MMA he will be stripped of his title, but McGregor quickly responded.

McGregor tweeted: "You'll strip me of nothing you'll do nothing c****."

His 155-pound title will be fought over in the main event of UFC 223: Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Max Holloway.

Tony Ferguson was previously slated to fight the Russia, but pulled out with injury and White clarified his interim title status and what is happening with McGregor's belt.

"We're not stripping Tony Ferguson," White said. "Tony Ferguson isn't being stripped, the only one that's losing a belt here is Conor.

"Conor is losing the belt. These two are fighting for the belt.

"The interim these two were supposed to fight for, fight doesn't happen, now one of these guys will be the champion. Tony is still the number one contender."
