Boxing: Okoth makes Africa bouts final

National lightweight champion Nick Okoth defeated Hamout Mohammed of Mauritius to sail through to the final of the African Boxing Championships in Congo Brazzaville on Saturday night.

Okoth is the only Kenyan boxer to make it to the final out of the 12 that travelled to Congo. Two other Kenyans bowed out in the semi-finals.

They are lightfly Shaffi Bakari and middleweight John Kyalo. Shaffi lost to Hammunyan Matias of Namibia, while Kyalo was beaten by Abdul Hossam Hussein of Egypt through a unanimous points decision. [Ben Ahenda]
