Lakeside lost their eighth consecutive match in the 2022 Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Men's Premier League after going down by a basket to visiting Kenyatta University Pirates.

Despite trying to pull off a second-half comeback win, the Kisumu-based outfit could not find the finishing touch as they lost 60-58 to the students in a match staged at Magadi Primary School in Manyatta, Kisumu.

Gabriel Achola scored a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds for Lakeside in the defeat as Dolph Otieno dropped 18 points for Pirates.

Simon Mwanzia added 15 points and five assists for the Pirates in the victory.

The match tipped off with Acholla showing his paint dominance with three consecutive layups and a dunk before Mwanzia and Dolph responded with two big three-pointers in the first quarter Pirates took 20-17.

In the second quarter, Emmanuel Kiyaka, Jayden Simiyu and captain Sila Awuor were hot from the three-point arc as they lead Lakeside's narrow 19-18 comeback. Pirates would however take a slender 38-36 halftime lead.

The third quarter would see Achola score eight points at the paint as David Simeon added four and Allan Kibra three points to take the third quarter 15-12.

Leading 51-50 heading into the last quarter, Lakeside needed to win with any margin to end their seven-match losing streak but that would not be the case as Mwanzia led Pirates in closing the game with a 10-7 performance to win 60-58.
