Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women are out maintain top spot as the Kenya Basketball Federation Premier League gets underway this weekend.

The Dockers’ top the women KBF standings with 31 points and will host Strathmore Sword (20 points) at Makande gymnasium today

“We are all set for the matches. KPA women will be out to stamp their authority in this game. Our intention is to make it to the playoffs with maximum points,” said KPA coach Anthony Ojukwu.

Defending champions Equity Hawks (26 points), who were impressive last weekend will battle it out against former champions Eagle Wings at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium today.

There are expectations that Eagle Wings will be strong enough to tackle a sturdy Equity side who bank on former KBF Most Valuable Player (MVP), Hilda Indasi, to amass points.

Zetech Sparks, who lie fourth on the log with 20 points, host United States International University (USIU) Flames this morning.

Zetech tackle flames

Zetech women head to the match with mixed fortunes after beating Kakamega’s Western Delight 73-22 and losing 70-30 to on-form KPA last weekend.

Zetech, who resumed the league last week after the General Elections, have a leg up over Flames whose semester resumed this week.

And the inadequate preparations forced Flames head coach George Mayienga to petition KBF to postpone their weekend matches.

“We just opened school this week. We are yet to train and, moreso, some of my players will graduate this Saturday (today),” said Mayienga. KBF were yet to respond to Mayienga’s request by close of business yesterday.

USIU men have a date with Lions and Umoja sides, who have posted dismal shows since the start of the second leg.

Lions need to tighten their belts if they expect to glide into the play-off at the end of the season. Umoja, who were promoted to the top flight league this season, too have a mountain to climb to sail into the play-offs stage this season. “We are working hard to get our form back," said Umoja head coach Martin Okwako.
