Teams still in the race for the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) titles have officially resumed their training this week as they gear up for their pending fixtures slated for next week.

One of the teams in the race is Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), who started their training at their Makande Gymnasium in Mombasa yesterday ahead of their women Premier League Game Three semis playoff against Co-op Bank.

According to KPA assistant coach Philip Onyango, the team needs to regain their level of fitness after the long Christmas holiday.

“As you are aware, we are the only side that is still unbeaten in the league and we want to carry on with this record up to the play-off finals, our intention is to win the league,” Onyango stated.

As it stands, the dockers stand a great chance of making it to the women’s Premier League finals after winning Game One and Two against the bankers in Nairobi in December in the semifinals series played to the best of five.

The dockers now needs only a win to sail through to the finals where they are poised to meet the winner of the other semi-final match currently pitting title holders United States International University(USIU) Flames against Equity Bank’s Hawks.

The semis contest between USIU and Equity failed to take off in December the students were engaged in the East Africa University Games held between December 16-21 at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

From their good run this season it is now evident KPA can perform far much better in this playoffs if their players stayed together to gel.

Currently, half of the team including Natalie Akinyi,Betty Kananu,Rose Mandela, Selina Okumu (all from Nairobi) and Felmas Adhiambo (Nakuru) are based outside Mombasa which means they have to design their own training schedules away from the rest at the coast.
