BASKETBALL LEAGUE: Ulinzi sides sparkle in KBF Premier League ties

Ulinzi teams had a great weekend, winning all their Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Premier League matches played at Nyayo National Stadium.

Ulinzi came from behind to win 60-47 against Nairobi Aviation in the men’s contest where Victor Odendo contributed 12 points and Erick Mutoro ten. Aviation, who had taken a 29-25 lead by the breather, got the highest points through Felix Luke and Ben Oluoch who contributed 11 and ten points respectively.

Ulinzi proceeded to break Equity Bank’s safe to register a 62-46 victory courtesy of former Lions captain Ancette Wafula who netted 24 points.

Vincent Onsongo gave the losers 11 points. Ulinzi won the quarters 19-9, 14-7, 10-22 and 19-8. Ulinzi women also thrashed Kenyatta University Oryx 58-44 after winning the quarters 21-5, 12-12, 13-12 and 12-15.

Thunder recorded a 67-60 win over Blazers after taking a 38-29 lead by half time in the men’s contest. Griffin Ligare was the marksman for the winners with 30 points as James Ragot added 12. Blazers’ Joel Wafula scored 18 as Joe Koech added 17.

Visiting Nakuru Club found the going tough against United States International University Africa (USIU) who won 80-60 with the help of Samuel Odera who notched 11 points. Nakuru’s James Okerio scored 14 points.

Unlucky Oryx failed to contain Storm who won 56-40. Mercy Wanyama and Sylvia Omollo were on point for Storms with 14 and 11 points while Betty Kananu had 19 for the students.

A battle of students between Strathmore University and Kenya College of Accountancy University (KCA-U) saw Strathmore thrash their opponents 73-18.

Melisa Akinyi raked in 20 points as Manuela Biel got 15 for the winners. Celestine Isambwa bagged nine points for KCA-U.

At the Upper Hill School ground, Kenyatta University men’s side, Pirates, failed to break Co-op Bank’s safe as the bankers cruised 68-39 after trailing the students 27-29 at the breather.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) lost 53-47 to Little Prince.

Africa Nazarene University (ANU)were lucky to record a 76-41 win against Parklands at the venue. However, ANU could not penetrate the defence of World Hope who won their encounter 74-67.

Other matches played at the venue saw Trailblazers win 64-51 against JKUAT as Eagle Wings defeated KCA-U 56-30. Little Prince recorded a 54-51 victory against Baraka Extreme.

Other weekend results at Nyayo stadium saw Lions win 65-52 against Mennonites as Co-op Bank defeated Blazers 84-40.

USIU-A thrashed Pirates 73-42 while Nairobi Aviation edged Kenya Airports Authority 65-58.
