Felix Korir and Edwin Kimosong bagged silver and bronze medals in lifetime-best performances on Saturday morning in the 3,000m race at the ongoing World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Cali, Colombia.

Seeking to replenish Kenya’s image after missing out on the podium during last year’s edition hosted in Nairobi, Korir and Kimosong delivered in style despite missing on the top prize.

Korir and Kimosong settled for silver and bronze in Personal Best times of 7:47.86 and 7:49.82 respectively as Melkeneh Azize of Ethiopia bagged gold in 7:44.06.

In the process, Azize who had gone into the final as one of the favorites defended the title won by Tadese Worku in Nairobi last year.

Elsewhere, World indoor 800m silver medalist Noah Kibet qualified for the finals of the men’s 800m after winning the third heat in 1:46.37 ahead of Great Britain’s Samuel Reardon and Ethiopia’s Mersimoi Kasahun.

The Briton timed 1:46.80 while the Ethiopian who was third clocked 1:46.95.
