The strength of a woman as FIFA select six referees for World Cup

Rwanda's Salima Mukansanga has scored once again and made a mark in the book of history after she was selected among three females to officiate during the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Mukansanga alongside Stephanie Frappart from France and Yoshimi Yamashita of Japan will be centre referees during the men’s 92nd World Cup.

This is the first time FIFA has selected female referees in the World Cup.

On Thursday, the FIFA Referees Committee announced the officials with the names of the selected match officials for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 set to kick off from 21 November to 18 December.

 Brazil’s Neuza Back, Karen Díaz Medina from Mexico and United States of America Kathryn Nesbitt received a node to be assistant referees respectively.

The six women’s match officials were appointed for the first time in FIFA World Cup history.

The chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee Pierluigi Collina praised the ove saying it is a great milestone in football.

“We happy that with Stéphanie Frappart from France, Salima Mukansanga from Rwanda and Yoshimi Yamashita from Japan, as well as assistant referees Neuza Back from Brazil, Karen Díaz Medina from Mexico and Kathryn Nesbitt from the USA, we have been able to call up female match officials for the first time in the history of a FIFA World Cup,” said Collina.

 FIFA has also selected a total of 36 referees, 69 assistant referees, 24 video match officials for the World Cup match officials representing the highest level of referring Worlwide.
