Top and upcoming stars ready to light up Eldoret City race

The stage is set for a splendid race. Budding ones and the 42km marathon big wigs are clashing tomorrow.
After six months of preparation, athletes itching for races following the disruption of sporting activities by the Covid-19 pandemic willl be racing for glory tomorrow in the third edition of the Eldoret City marathon.
The big shots will have to contend with youngsters who are seeking to turn tables in the marathon that happening in Kenya since the outbreak of coronavirus.
For example, Calvin Kimaiyo, an Iten based 5000m athlete will be challenging a decorated Paul Lonyangata for the Sh3.5 million winning prize.
The start list is an assembly of the top guns from North Rift, the home to a majority of the world beaters.
While Kimaiyo will be making a debut, Lonyangata will be starting off the 2021 season, after winning the Taiwan marathon last year. He also has the Paris Marathon title to boot.
“I have prepared well for this race. It will be significant for me because I am graduating to the marathon. There is strong start line up but I will do my best,” Kimaiyo told Standard Sport yesterday. Hillary Bett, a 2:09 marathoner from Uasin Gishu will also be out to win the top prize as he wants the money to remain in his home county.
Mathew Kiplagat from Elgeyo Marakwet who has a 2:12:09 personal best, debutants Felix Rotich from Nandi and Jacob Nalianya from Bungoma will also be hoping to shine.
Viacheslav Chvoro from Russia will also try to challenge Kenyan marathoners tomorrow.
Hundreds of Kenya’s upcoming women marathoners will equally face their counterparts who conquered Europe, America and Asia for the title of an event with a world class status.
Vivian Kiplagat, the 2019 Mexico City Marathon champion and Purity Jebichii, the winner of the 17th edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon in 2019 will be colliding on the course with their Bahraini counterpart Eunice Chumba.
Janet Rono will be bringing to the Eldoret City Marathon start line her 2011 Hong Kong Marathon, 2013 Cologne Marathon and 2014 Ljubljana Marathon titles.
Rono began her career in Mexico, winning the 2009 Gran Pacífico Marathon before clinching a silver medal at the Culiacán, Mexico City and Ciudad Juarez in 2010.
