More than 6,000 athletes are expected at the 11th Isaiah Kiplagat memorila Ndalat Gaa cross country meeting set for Ndalat Gaa Girls High School in Nandi on Saturday.
This year’s race will see athletes enjoy free medical services and mentorship programme for pupils under Isaiah Kiplagat Foundation.
Abraham Mutai, the Athletics Kenya Central Rift chairman and Local Organizing Committee chairman, said the mentorship programme will help young athletes shape their future.
“It will have a training programme on personal development. For the second time, the community will benefit from the two-day medical camp from our health providers partners,” said Mutai.
Many athletes have used the event to launch their athletics careers. They include two-time world 10,000m bronze medalist Agnes Tirop, World and Olympic champion 3,000m steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto, former world cross country medalist Sanra Felis Chebet and world under-20 5000m champion Beatrice Chebet.
Last week, the organizers received Sh2 million from Safaricom and another Sh2 million from Nandi County. Other sponsors include Kenya Pipeline and Mosop Constituency CDF who donated Sh500, 000 each. Athletics Kenya gave Sh300, 000 while Silverstone Air donated Sh200,000.
