Kenya national cross country champion Agnes Tirop won the annual Rediscover Nandi 10km race yesterday in Nandi County.

For the victory, Tirop bagged Sh50, 000 after beating hundreds of contestants with a winning time of 34:17.

The Rediscover Nandi 10km race has been an annual sporting event in Nandi County since 2006.

The race began at the Kamonjil Power Station along the Lessos-Himaki highway, before athletes crossed the Chebarbar River. They then climbed the strenuous but exciting Chebarbar Hill, descended into Kapsabet town before finishing at Namgoi Secondary school.

“Rediscover Nandi is a great event where fresh and established talent come together to compete; I am happy with this victory,” said Tirop.

Berlin Half Marathon winner Paskalia Chepkorir finished second in 34:21, while Nyamira County’s Joy Kemuma settling for third in a time of 35:59.

In the men’s race, Isaac Lelei won in a time of 30:30. Hillary Kering was second in 30:37, while Emmanuel Bor was third in 30:49.

Chief race organiser Fred Kiptanui said this year’s event saw athletes give their best.

The title sponsor was Kenya Power and Lighting Company. Others were Isuzu, NHIF, Dairy Board and Posta.
