On page 50 yesterday's edition of The Standard, we erroneously captioned distinguished Sports administrator Vanraj Sarvaiya as Resham Bains. Sarvaiya is the vice chairman of the Kenya National Sports Council and not a National Olympic Committee official. He was at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to receive Team Kenya athletes returning from Rio de Janeiro in the just-concluded Olympics. We take this early opportunity to set the record straight that Sarvaiya, who is a former Lawn Tennis Association of Kenya chairman is in no way connected to the shenanigans of the Rio Olympics. The correct photo of Resham Bains appears above inset.
RIO GAMES: Controller of Budget not in Brazil
A story we carried on Sunday, August 28, titled 'Revealed: Rio Big Fish' said the Controller of Budget was among top Government officials who travelled to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The story referred to a Mr Francis Anyona Oino listed under Treasury and designated as Controller of Budgets in the Nock and Sports Ministry Rio itinerary. It has come to our attention that there is only one Controller of Budget, Agnes Odhiambo, who was appointed in August 2011 under Article 228 of the Constitution. We take this early opportunity to set the record straight that the person listed on the Rio itinerary is Francis Anyona Oino and not Ms Odhiambo. We regret the mix-up.
