The Government sponsored legislation is yet to land at the National Assembly despite constant assurances that it will be fast tracked to meet the April 5 deadline set by the World anti-doping Agency (Wada).

The Chair of the National Assembly Labour and Social Welfare Committee David Were (Matungu) said that he was yet to see the proposals, although his committee has cleared privately sponsored legislative proposals by Cherangany MP, Wesley Korir (pictured right) and forwarded them to the House Budget committee.

“We signed Korir’s proposed amendments on Monday. The proposals have now been committed to the Budget Committee for input,” he said.

“The Government bill has not come, but when it comes, then we will pass it through the usual parliamentary processes. As a committee, we are committed to ensuring that we beat the Wada deadline,” said the MP.

On Tuesday, Prof Moni Wekesa, who was tasked by the Ministry of Sports to draw up the Anti-Doping Bill 2016 completed his bit and Wada gave it the green light to be submitted to Parliament, said he had been assured the the document had been sent to the August House.

And yesterday, Cabinet Secretary for Sports Dr Hassan Wario told FeverPitch since the bill was Government sponsored, they submitted it to the Attorney General’s office last week for onward transmission to Parliament.
