Vihiga Queens, Trans Nzoia kick off premier league second leg with wins

Vihiga Queens beat Wadadia 2-1 on Saturday at the Mumias Sports Complex as the second round of the FKF Women Premier League kicked off after a two weeks break.

Maurine Achieng gave the defending champions the lead at the half-hour mark before Engesa Tereza ensured the undisputed queens took a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.

Ruth Chebungei would pull one goal back for Wadaida in the 58th minute but the Alex Alumira coached side would hold on for a 2-1 win.

The win cements Vihiga’s lead in the KWPL standings on 22 points from eight matches. Wadadia are third on 13points.

In Eldoret, Violete Nanjala scored a hat-trick as Trans Nzoia Falcons thrashed Eldoret Falcons 4-2 to cement their second place in the Zone B standings.

The win saw Trans Nzoia maintain second place behind Vihiga Queens with 16 points, six points behind the leaders.

Violet Nanjala gave Trans Nzoia the lead in the 15th minute before Immaculat Nawire restored parity at the half hour mark.

Martha Karani ensured the visitors took a narrow 2-1 lead at the break but Eldoret would not give up after levelling the scores once again through Viona Anyangomin in the 59th minute.

Trans Nzoia however pulled away with two quick goals by Nanjala in less than five minutes as the visitors ended up winning 4-2.

In other matches, Kisumu All Starlets defeated SEP Ladies 1-0 at Kotieno Grounds as Kayole Starlets held Mathare United to a 2-2 draw.

The league continues Sunday with three matches lined up Nakuru Queens will tackle Oserian Ladies FC at the Nakuru Show Ground, Thika Queens face Ulinzi Starlets and Zetech Sparks entertain Gaspo Women.
