Harambee Stars skipper Victor Wanyama has partnered with non-governmental organisations to distribute sanitizers to residents of Nairobi.

Wanyama through his foundation will on Friday, March 27 hand out sanitizers to residents of Mathare slums in Nairobi County.

The foundation will join hands with the  Kenya Red Cross, the Gina Din Foundation and the Africa Yoga Project to help more than a thousand families fight the corona pandemic in the low-income area.

The defensive midfielder who now plies his trade at MLS side Montreal Impact has reiterated the need for Kenyans to follow set guidelines by the ministry of health to curb the spread of the virus.

"It's very important to listen to what the health experts are saying over this issue. Let's wash our hands regularly, minimise our movements and interactions and just follow what the government and health experts are advising," said Wanyama.

The lion of Muthurwa joins other sporting stars who have come out to help their communities in tackling the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Last week Senegalese and Liverpool Star Sadio Mane donated Sh 5.1 million (£41,000) to Senegalese health authorities fighting coronavirus in his home country.

The 27-year- old forward also urged his countrymen to take the virus 'extremely seriously’ and to wash and disinfect their hands to curb the spread of the virus.

Another star is Joel Embiid who donated Sh53 million to the Coronavirus relief program.

The Cameroonian basketball player who plays for Philadelphia 76ers donated the money to help his team workers who have had their salary temporarily cut due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Covid-19 has claimed over 21,000 people globally with 490,000 confirmed cases of the virus.

In Kenya, there are 31 confirmed cases with one patient succumbing to the virus on Thursday, March 26
