Arsenal’s injury crisis worsens as Mustafi taken is off on stretcher at Bournemouth
Arsenal's defensive woes have been plunged into further crisis following an injury to Shkodran Mustafi against Bournemouth.
The German centre-back has been a regular selection in Arsenal's side in recent weeks, but now looks to be facing a spell on the sidelines after being carried off on a stretcher.
Mustafi went down in pain after a collision with Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in the FA Cup clash on Monday.
Medical staff rushed to his attention, but he was unable to continue, and covered his face as he was taken from the field.
Rob Holding came on in his place, but Arsenal are now pushed for cover at the back with a number of other first tea stars out of action.
Calum Chambers, Sead Kolasinac and Keiran Tierney are all ruled out, while David Luiz is still suspended.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been desperately trying to add reinforcements to his squad in the transfer window.
But their move for Flamengo defender Pablo Mari is hanging in the balance after Arsenal reneged on an original agreement and changed the terms of a potential deal.
It was believed as fee of £7.5million had been confirmed by both sides for the sale of Mari - who completed a medical in London over the weekend.
Mari has since flown back to Brazil, but with the deal now in doubt, after Arsenal reportedly claimed they could not afford to sign the player permanently this month, and instead requested to take the 26-year-old on loan.
As it stands, Mari is set to join up with the rest of the Flamengo team for pre-season training this week, although talks between the clubs are ongoing.
They now have less than a week to get the transfer over the line, with the window due to slam shut on Friday evening.
Meanwhile Real Madrid have blocked Dani Ceballos from going on loan to La Liga rivals Valencia, as the Spaniard looks to end his loan spell at Arsenal.
Madrid are not keen on allowing Ceballos to switch to another club in Spain for fear that it would strengthen their opposition.
