Wanyama reveals his 'next destination' after Tottenham manager told him that ‘we are not a charity’

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has hinted at a possible Celtic return in phone call to former team-mate Fraser Forster after the keeper choose to wear his old no.67 shirt.

Celtic this week confirmed the return of Forster on a season-long loan deal - five years after selling him to Southampton for £10m.

Forster left the Celtics for Southampton in 2014, a year after Wanyama made the same move.

In an interview with Celtic TV, Forster was asked about the number choice and  he said: "I picked it, yeah. Victor was straight onto me after the game."

He then revealed that the Kenyan international had called him to congratulate him on the move and hinted that he could return to Celtic one day as he looks set to leave Spurs this summer.

"He's on at me saying ‘keep my shirt warm for a bit!’" he added.

Wanyama is currently in talks to leave Tottenham for Brugge but nothing is finalised at the moment.

Latest reports revealed that Spurs had asked for £17million for Wanyama, but the Belgian club were prepared to pay just £8m.

Wanyama’s Celtic transfer update comes just a day after Mauricio Pochettino sent him packing towards a £10million move to Club Bruges by saying his Tottenham career has gone “backwards” and shrugging: “We are not a charity.” 

He said: "It's all about performance. Football is for today and tomorrow, not yesterday.

"Y "In the case of Victor, he suffered an injury and another player stepped up and took his place. We are in a team, we are not a charity.

"Victor is a very important player and, for different circumstances, went backwards.

“That is the evolution of football and things like that happen naturally at all clubs."

Tottenham isn't a charity, Pochettino tells Wanyama

Wanyama started his professional career with Belgian side Germinal Beerschot AC in 2009 staying at the club for two years before moving on to Scotland giants Celtic for another two years.

He then made his move to Southampton on 11 July 2013 for £11.5m.

He joined Spurs from Southampton in the summer of 2016 but has slipped down the pecking order and has yet to feature for the London club this season.

His career since he joined Spurs has been marred by bursts of nagging injuries, which have also kept the midfielder out of action in crucial parts of the season.
