Samuel Njoroge of Kenya Railways is the 2018 Nyali Open champion.
The 24-year-old Njoroge started off on Saturday by hitting a four over par 75 gross in the first round in the morning and added a two over par 73 gross in the second round during the annual tourney at Nyali Golf and Country Club.
In the final round yesterday, the golfer conquered the course by hitting the nail hard to round up on an excellent one under par 70 gross to be declared the overall gross winner on a round total of 218.
“I came early to Mombasa, practiced hard and now I am happy to be the winner of this tournament. Despite the heat, the course was playing well and the greens were fantastic,” said Njoroge.
Thika Sports Club's Peter Rimui, on 222 gross (75, 75, 72), was the runner-up while Vet Lab’s Mike Kisia was third on 223 gross (72, 76, 75).
The Inter-club winners were Sammy Mulama and Henry Kamau from Nyali and the runner-ups were Andrew Chelegoi and S.Nanji from Eldoret.
Henry Kamau, on 217 nett, was the overall winner, while Sammy Mulama, on 219 nett, was the runner-up.
The tournament, which was sponsored by Grain Bulk Limited, Shikara Limited and AAR Health Services, was the 19th series in the 2018 Kenya Golf Union’s (KGU) organised Kenya Amateur Golf Championships calendar of events.
KGU chairman Lucas Maranga said the series has been successful and the overall Kenya Amateur 2018 Champion will be declared and crowned later.
