27 entries for Guru Nanak: Tundo and Baldev gear up for fun at Stoni Athi as others race for third place honours

Chatthe among a star cast at the season-ending rally in Machakos County.

The 39th edition of the Guru Nanak Rally has attracted 27 cars among them Jaspreet Chatthe who will be co-driven by Gugu Panesar in a Mitsubishi Evolution 10 this Sunday.

The Simba Union Club will have four of the top Sikh drivers starting in the top four positions of the final round of the 2018 Kenya National Rally Championship season. 

There were fears earlier that the Multiple Hauliers sponsored rally would be hit by low turnout given the high entry fees in previous races, but such concerns were allayed by the reduction of the participation fees to Sh15,000 from Sh50,000.

The rally is now set to bring the curtains down on the KNRC 2018 season already won by Carl ‘Flash’ Tundo co-driven by Tim Jessop, but the fight for the third podium placing is up for grabs.

Baldev ‘Boldy’ Chager has already sealed second place.

The event will start at 7am on Sunday morning from the Stoni Athi Resort, by the outskirts of the Machakos County,  with Chatthe and Panesar first off the ramp.

Chatthe, returns to action for the first time since his last event in the Safari Rally this year. The former African Rally Champion will fancy his chances of winning the season ender while co-driven by his familiar navigator Panesar Mitsubishi Lancer10.

Manvir Baryan, the reigning African Champion driving a Skoda Fabia, is seeded second followed by Chager, who will be followed by Onkar Rai (Skoda Fabia).

The newly crowned national champion, ‘Flash’Tundo is seeded fifth in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo10.

Tundo and his partner Tim Jessop won the last year’s edition of Multiple Hauliers Guru Nanak Rally will have to contend with archrival Charger and his partner Ravi Soni.

Eric Bengi will be fighting for the third position against former Divison Two Champion Onkar Rai, reigning African Rally champion Baryan and Farhaaz Khan

Baldev Chager said: “Flash had a very spirited drive in Eldoret and beat me by 3 seconds. The championship is done and dusted and we are going to the Guru Nanak to have fun.”

Flash Tundo said: “It has been a very hard fight, but we have proven that we have the pace and we are looking forward to a good event at Guru Nanak.”

The crews will tackle three competitive stages of which Stoni Athi (58km) and SGR (15km) will be repeated twice.
