International Christian Church in Imara Daima, Nairobi has built not one but two football pitches on top of its church sanctuary.

The pitches are not just ordinary level playgrounds but are built using international techniques; with all necessary amenities found in normal international stadia.

The rare scenery has given the church a new spotlight not only from the surrounding community but from other people from different parts of the country who visit the worship place just to see and experience how the project works.

“We receive many visitors each day who come to use and others just to see the fields, let me say that this project has attracted many people to this center,” says Reverend Julius Wainaina, a resident pastor.

The project was initiated by the Church under Ambassadors Football Training Center, a program by the same church that seeks to empower those with talents in sports by offering training and play facilities in partnership with Kenya Assemblies of God.

According to Reverend Julius Wainaina, the program was officially launched on September 2, 2018

The pastor says the fields are fully booked all week long except Sunday when the facility is closed from public access to allow church services to proceed without interruption.

Individuals, families, team members, players and amateurs from the surrounding community and those coming from various parts of Kenya throng the facility for training, tournaments, football matches, birthday parties, outdoor activities and games, team building activities, weddings among others.

KAG general superintended, also a partner in this program and who also oversaw launching of the fields said sports initiative by the Ambassadors Football is to transform individuals and society in general. “We dream to invest in value/character/gift for the next generation through using creative ways of outreach to connect people to God and to themselves through the means that they well understand.”

According to Julie Wahome who is currently the chairperson of the Ambassadors Football Kenya, the focus of such initiatives is essentially to transform individuals and communities through local football outreach.

“Our church attendance has also increased tremendously because of this project, people including the local community have reason to be associated with us,” explains official.

The fields on roof top are also within the church’s mission of using creative ways of outreach which includes sports, creative arts and the media to reach the people. “We believe that these creative ways are some of the most effective outreach programs,” explains Reverend Wainaina.
