It was an emotional night for James Rodriguez as his Bayern Munich side were knocked out of the Champions League by his parent club Real Madrid.

The game was packed with controversy - as is usually the case when so much is at stake - and Bayern Munich went home to Germany feeling they should have been awarded at least one penalty.

Robert Lewandowski was bundled over by Sergio Ramos in the box, after Marcelo appeared to handle the ball in the area.

The Brazilian even admitted the referee should have pointed to the spot after the game, telling Fox Sports: "Well, if it hit my hand, I'd say so [a penalty should have been awarded]."

Rodriguez's mum was keeping track of the action on Tuesday night, and was vocal on Twitter as decisions went against her son's team.

On the handball incident she tweeted: "If it was not a hand, what was it?"

She later wrote: "Every time I see that it winds me up," adding: "Four penalties in two games," and concluding: "The key figures in this match are the referees."

Rodriguez is in his second year at Bayern Munich after joining the club on a two-year loan deal last season.

He netted Bayern's second in their 2-2 draw with Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough, and the Spaniards progressed 4-3 on aggregate.
