Kamais wins the Standard Golf: Title won by most experienced player in the tournament
Nakuru leg favourite Mutwasi finished second behind winner Sahota.
On form handicap two John Kamais mustered 43 stableford points to beat 110 golfers in the first edition of the Standard County Classics Golf series this year at Nakuru Golf Club over the weekend.
Kamais hit five under par, but dropped one shot in hole 17 scored 20 points in the first nine before harvesting another 23 stableford points in the back nine to win the Nakuru leg of the series.
“Today was my day and I’m very happy with the performance,” Kamais told Standard Sports after ward off tough opponents who included handicap two Paul Muhia and long hitting Luther Kamau.
Kamais also scooped the Nearest to the Pin and Longest Drive men titles and was among the two club winners to crown his day as the best golfer of the tournament.
Addressing the golfers, among them prominent businessmen and women in the county, Standard Group PLC acting CEO Orlando Lyomu welcomed constructive criticism of its products as well as business support.
“Without your support, we could not have reached where we are to date and I appeal that we continue working together as we are also open to constructive criticism to assist us shape our shortcomings,” said Lyomu, who was accompanied by the Head of Human Resources Nicholas Siwatom and Head of Corporate Affairs, Charles Kimathi.
Coming second was handicap 21 Indraj Singh, who posted 40 stableford points.
Nelson Koech who was beaten on count-back by Singh finished third while David Ngure settled for fourth place with 38 stableford points.
After a successful harvest in the past three consecutive tournaments, handicap 26 Margaret Mutwasi ended up as women’s runners up at 34 stableford points. Kuljit Sahota was the winner with 37 points.
Sammy Mose won the staff prize with 40 stableford points hence improving his handicap from 20 to 19 as Chris Kiai became the guest winner on 30 stableford points.
Fresh from the Kenya Open Pro Am Championships, Halima Mwende won the women’s longest drive title.
