Maseno School will settle for nothing less than a place at next month’s Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association National Term One Games in Embu.

The Kisumu County giants are determined to awaken from a deep slumber that has seen their once powerful rugby 15s and basketball teams fail to qualify for the national games.

They will launch their quest for the tickets on Thursday when the Nyanza Region Term One Games begin at St Mary’s Yala School. After being crowned county rugby 15s, basketball, and handball boys champions, they are now seeking regional titles.

They last won the East Africa rugby 15s tile in 2014.

Maseno coach Paul Nyamita said his boys were strong and determined to make every match count.

“We want to bounce back in style and this year the boys are determined to leave a mark at the games."

Maseno begin their ticket hunt in Group A that also has Cardinal Otunga, Kanga High, and hosts St Mary’s. Group B has Ambira, Nyambaria, Agoro Sare, and Ndiru.

In basketball, Maseno will also seek a return to the nationals after missing from two editions. [Elizabeth Mburugu]
