POLO: Nzomo score four out of five goals

Mambo beat Galaxy in Ndume Trophy as tourney continues today.

Royal Salute took advantage of a two goal advantage to beat Safaricom 7-6 in the first match of Moi Cup as the tournament kicked off at Manyatta Polo Club in Gilgil yesterday.

Starting off at handicap 6.5, man of the match Raphael Nzomo scored four out of the five goals for Salute in the four chukkas with the first one barely after a minute. 

Safaricom levelled few seconds later from the efforts of Gideon Moi whose combination with Kimoi Moi, Kigen Moi and Archie Voorspuy remained superb throughout the match. 

Nzomo added another goal for his team before Gideon reduced the deficit for Salute to lead 4-2 at the end of the first chukka.

Voorspuy and Gideon added two more goals for their team to rally from behind to a 4-4 deadlock at the end of the second chukka.

Salute then resumed with renewed determination in the third chukka, but they had to wait for Voorspuy to score their penalty before Nzomo levelled for 5-5 score at the end.

In the final chukka, Nzomo and Phillip Arunga ensured they won against a reply from Gideon for a 7-6 final score.

The two teams face off again this afternoon ahead of the final match tomorrow, which will be the decider on who lifts Moi Cup Championships’ title.

Mambo beat Samsung Galaxy 3-1.5 in the Ndume Trophy in the four team competition that enters second round this morning.

Nick Barlow scored a double for the winners with Jamie Haywards netting the other and a consolation goal for Samsung Galaxy with 1.5 goal advantage from their low handicap.

In the Junior Cup Championships, Fanta and Stoney settled for a 1-1 draw in the round robin matches.

In the second match of the same Cup, Sprite mauled Fanta 2-1. On their part, Stoney returned stronger after their first match when they edged Dasani 2-1.

Sprite defeated Coke 5-4 in the final match of the Junior Championships. In the Junior Cup Championships matches scheduled for this morning.
