Ozil & Zidane

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has revealed he is still in contact with Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.

The German playmaker’s contract expires at the end of the season and he has shown no signs of committing to a new deal.

Jose Mourinho refused to rule out a move for Ozil at his press conference on Friday while Ozil himself has previously hinted he would consider a return to Spain.

It is not known whether Real Madrid are keen on a move for the man they sold in 2013 but Ozil has revealed he still speaks to Zidane, who he idolised as a young player.

“The way he interpreted and directed his game has fascinated me and still fascinates me,” said Ozil in an interview with FootballMgzn.

“His technique and his creativity were outstanding. As a youth player I wanted to be like him.

“When I got to Real Madrid and met him, my hands were sweating and I was nervous.

“But Zidane was very kind and positive. We still have contact from time to time.”
