Basketball: Zetech continue with mixed signals in the Kenya Basketball league
Zetech University scrapped a half-basket win as they edged out University of Nairobi Terror 44-43 in the Kenya Basketball Federation men’s Division One League at Upper Hill School at the weekend.
The contest was equally balanced, with Terror winning the first quarter 8-6. Zetech ensured parity after they won the second quarter 12-9.
The third and fourth quarters were deadlocked as both teams tied 13-13 apiece in the periods.
Sam Otieno topped the scoring charts with 23 points for Terror, while Zetech had 10 points through James Chan.
Despite the slim victory, Zetech could not contain the heat generated by hosts Eldonets in Eldoret.
Eldonets pinned the visitors down to pull a 70-49 win in a one-sided affair. The winners took a 32-21 lead at half time.
Eldonets registered 23-16, 9-5, 14-17, 24-11 victories in the four quarters as they produced a high-performance game through Renson Getanga (19 points) and George Opiyo (24). Eddy Bahati of Zetech had 11.
Elsewhere, United States International University (USIU) continued with their winning ways in the KBF women Premier League.
USIU beat hosts Western Delight 62-43 in Kakamega to carry the day. The two vital points have put them in an enviable position ahead of this year’s playoffs.
But the greatest reapers of the weekend were Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), who dismantled visiting Trailblazers 84-52 and Lions 65-48 in the KBF men’s Premier League.
Victor Ochieng was the star attraction for KPA against Lions, scoring 11 points. He was vital in guiding the dockers to post 14-14,24-6,15-19,15-9 in the four quarters.
KPA had three able scorers against Trailblazers - Frank Omondi (12 points), Evans Letting (11), and Samuel Ochola (11). Alex Oguso scored 14 for Trailblazers, while Lenson Kisia had 10.
Separately, Mustangs, Nairobi University Dynamites, and Safe Spaces qualified for the finals of the ongoing Nairobi Basketball Association playoffs.
