SportPesa have honoured their pledge to reward members of Kenya’s select side who played a friendly match against Hull City FC development side at KCOM Stadium in Hull City last month.
The Kenyans, dubbed SportPesa AllStars, lost 1-2 to their hosts, but the betting company decided to reward them with the winning bonus of Sh1.15 million earlier pledged. Tusker midfielder Humphrey Mieno also received Sh100, 000 for his goal.
“We decided to reward the team with the winning bonus in order to motivate them ahead of the return leg in Nairobi,” said Esther Kangethe, the SportPesa Assistant Marketing manager.
SportPesa AllStars and Tusker defender James Situma said the Hull trip was an eye-opener. “We enjoyed every moment of the trip. Everything was in order,” he said.
“One of the lessons I learnt was that football is not all about stepping on the pitch to play. There are many things you can do with the game; ranging from administration to hospitality and many more.”
Kenyan Premier League CEO Jack Oguda said the country is waiting for the return leg against a select Hull City FC side in Nairobi.
