The ongoing Nairobi Governor’s Cup football tournament has now reached ward semi-finals following completion of quarter finals in Nairobi at the weekend

Prolific striker Samuel Ayoo led Victoria Sports to the semis in the Parklands Ward contest after edging out Ujuzi Soccer 2-1 at the historic Kihumbuini ground, Kangemi, on Sunday.

Victoria Sports were the first to find the back of the net in the 30th minute through Linus Nyangweso, who slotted in Ayoo’s through pass from just outside the opponent’s box.

After the break, the winners continued to pile pressure and this bore fruit in the 75th minute when Ayoo volleyed in to give his side a 2-0 advantage. Ujuzi Soccer pulled one back through John Otieno before the whistle.

“We know this contest is a marathon so we are taking a game at a time as we carry on.

Our hope is to lift the ward contest and eventually be the overall cup winners,” said Ayoo who is fresh from completing his Form Four exams at Peter Kibukosya High School in Umoja.

Apart from taking part in the tournament, Ayoo hopes lady luck will smile on him to be among the most talented players who will be selected from the tournament to enjoy full scholarship recently announced by Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

The governor attended the weekend contests staged at Riruta Stadium in Dagoretti. “My desire is to go to college to secure a bright future for me and my family,” said Ayoo.

Kidero said 30 best players out of the 17,525 from 680 teams currently in contest will be selected to form the final Nairobi County FC.
