Kenya's women handball team yesterday lost 29-23 to Uganda on the final day of the International Handball Federation (IHF) Challenge Trophy Zone V B tournament in Mukono, Uganda.

The win guaranteed the hosts a ticket to the continental tournament to be held early next year in a yet to be decided venue.

Uganda's Barbra Nantume and Doreen Ondoa were joint top scorers with nine goals each. Kenya's Sara Muketi scored eight goals, while teammate Naomi Mombua had six.

Speaking after the match, Kenya coach Allan Mate said the match just slipped from his charges and their conversion rate was very poor.

"I can say it was hard luck, but then, we started the match poorly, thus allowing Uganda to take control of the proceedings in the first 10 minutes. We had a couple of mistakes in the first half and our conversion rate was so poor, because we missed several chances.

"We lost to a better side and it was like we were not fully prepared for this match really," he said.

Ahead of the match, Kenya had six points from three matches, same as Uganda.

Kenya defeated Tanzania, Burundi and South Sudan.
