Arsenal's European campaign "going nowhere" admits Arsene Wenger

England:  Arsene Wenger admitted Arsenal’s European campaign is “going nowhere” after their Champions League campaign hit a new low.

Gunners boss Wenger watched in horror as Arsenal were humiliated in the Allianz Arena to leave them needing a miracle to reach the knock-out stages.

It equalled Arsenal’s worst ever European defeat, when they suffered a 4-0 thrashing at AC Milan in 2012.

Wenger said: “We were not at the races. When we went forward we had chances but with a defensive performance like that you go nowhere.

“You have to give credit to Bayern for their quality. On top of that we made things quite easy for them with our defensive performance. We were extremely poor defensively.

“I can’t tell you if it’s the worst (performance). But we have to realise that with that kind of performance our chances are at a minimum.”

Arsenal now have to beat Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos in their final Group matches. They must also beat the Greek side by two clear goals and hope Olympiacos lose to Bayern.

Wenger added: “We have a chance to qualify. Olympiacos have to lose here. It’s a small chance but a real one. We have to give it all to have a chance to qualify. If Bayern play like they did tonight they will beat Olympiacos.

“We also have to focus on Sunday and turn up with a different performance. We are in a strong position in the league.”

Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola did give Arsenal some hope by promising to go all out to beat Olympiacos.

Guardiola added: “You have to know it's impossible to not try to win. Arsenal have to be calm. Be calm and be sure that the trainer and the players are going to try and win.

“Maybe we will not win but be sure we will fight for it. We want to be first in the group. They have the same points of us.”

Wenger says Laurent Koscielny has a “small chance” of being fit to face Spurs this weekend after missing Bayern with a hip problem but Hector Bellerin seems certain to be out.
