Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) will be seeking to end their three-match winless run when they host unbeaten Kabras Sugar in a Kenya Cup match set to be played at MMUST Grounds in Kakamega on Saturday.

The university students have found the going tough after losing three straight games against Strathmore Leos, Menengai Oilers and Kenya Harlequin despite kicking off the 2021-2022 season with victories against Nondies and Homeboyz.

Speaking to the Standard Sports, MMUST assistant head coach John Asila said they are in good shape and are ready to show the doubters that they are a strong side.

Asila rubbished talks that they are out of form, saying very minor mistakes cost them against Leos (25-24) and Quins (21-20) which they lost narrowly.

“The team is in form. We are playing very well at the moment and it is just some slight mistakes that are affecting the team. We know Kabras are a force to reckon in Kenya Cup but have trained well all week and we will be ready for them.”

“Every player is fit and apart from Timothy Mmasi who is away with Kenya Sevens. His impact will be greatly missed of cause but we have players who can fill the gap and play well,” explained Asila.

MMUST lost 56-0 to the 2016 champions last season at Kakamega Showground.

Kabras Sugar return to action after missing last weekend’s round five matches after their game against Nondies was postponed. The Kenya Cup finalists will be missing the services of Kevin Wekesa, Derrick Ashiundu and Fijian-born full back Jone Kubu set to debut for Shujaa.
