South Africa, Samurai and Nigeria latest sides to join Safari 7s list

A total of 14 teams have confirmed participation in the Safari Sevens which will be held on October 30 at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

A total of 10 men teams have confirmed their participation in this year’s category while four have confirmed their availability for the women category.

Hosts Kenya will be represented by Kenya national sevens side Shujaa, Kenya Morans- the defending champions, Kenya Under 20 and KCB.

2018 winners Samurai, South Africa Allstars, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Red Wailers, and Nigeria’s Stallion sevens will also be part of the tournament.

“There are a total of 10 confirmations in the men’s competition thus far. They include South Africa All Stars, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Samurai, Red Wailers, Stallion Sevens Nigeria, KCB, Kenya U20, Kenya Shujaa and Kenya Morans,” said Kenya Rugby Union.

In the women category, Kenya Lionesses will field two teams and will be joined by South Africa select and Zimbabwe.

“There are 4 confirmations in the women’s competition including Zimbabwe, South Africa Select as well as the two Kenya Lionesses squads. More confirmations and information around the tournament is expected in subsequent communications,” added the union..

First played in 1996, the Safari Sevens returns after it’s cancellation in 2020 owing to the Covid-19 pandemic which paralyzed sporting activities globally.
