After staying out in the cold for seven years, Nakuru RFC are hungry for Kenya Cup League title.

Head coach Felix Oloo said they are destined for bigger things after an impressive start in the league, where they have won their opening two matches.

“We are determined to keep the fire burning by winning our matches. We aim to qualify for the play-offs and possibly, win the title,” Oloo told Standard Sports at Nakuru Athletic Club at the weekend.

In their two opening matches, Nakuru dismissed Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad 13-8 before defeating Masinde Muliro University of Science Technology (MMUST) 23-10 over the weekend. Both matches were at Nakuru Athletic Club.

“What matters in any match is to win points and going by the state of my players, all what matters is to have an organised game,” said Oloo.

Oloo admitted that his players were not at their best against MMUST but promised to do better in their next game against their neighbours Menengai Oilers on Saturday.

“My boys did not play according to instructions but what matters most are the points. That’s exactly what we achieved but we’ll have to improve on it in the next match,” Oloo, who is also the national women Sevens’ team coach, said.

On his part, MMUST head coach Ochieng’ Ahaya said his team is improving with every match and things will look up soon.

“Yes, we have lost our first two matches but we played against experienced and senior teams. But in each of the matches, we have learnt our strengths and weaknesses that could help us improve ahead of our next matches,” Ahaya said.
