Kenya improves in latest International Rugby Board (IRB) 15s series rankings

After emerging fourth in the International Rugby Board (IRB) World Cup Sevens series in Russia this year, Kenya has proved that she is still a powerhouse in the World Rugby fifteens.

The latest world rankings in the 15s rugby places Kenya third in Africa after South Africa and Namibia.

South Africa tops with 88.51 points and are second globally in the world rankings behind New Zealand.

Namibia comes second with 58.70 points and are 23rd globally while Kenya being third in the continent with 52.78 points are at position 31 globally.

Kenya Rugby Union Communications Manager Michael Kwambo welcomed the new development.

“It shows that we are in the right path,” he told Feverpitch. Zimbabwe is fourth in Africa with 52.63 points (position 32 in the world) followed by Morocco with 51.18 points (36), Ivory Coast 48.83 points(40), Tunisia 48.25 points(42) and Senegal 46.89 points (47).

According to the world 15s rankings at the IRB website on September 23, the top countries are New Zealand with 92.07 points followed by South Africa (88.51), England (85.76), Australia (83.67), France (81.59) and Wales (81.36).

Others are Samoa (80.42), Ireland (79.58), Scotland (76.95) and Argentina (76.41).
