A woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a Pwani University student.

The 26-year-old woman is suspected to have killed David Wairire, 23, in Kipkenyo, Kapseret constituency on Saturday night and stayed with the body until yesterday.

Residents said the two have been living together for about six months.

The suspect claimed gangsters attacked them on Saturday night but the matter was not reported to the police until yesterday when neighbours discovered the student’s body in their house.

According to the suspect, Wairire became unconscious after the alleged Saturday night attack at nearby Kipkaren trading centre.

But her explanation on the turn of events and why she failed to report the death since Saturday night raised eyebrows.

Wairire was found with his hands tied, a stab wound in the stomach and a bruise on his face.

The house where Wairire's body was found is part of rental houses he inherited from his late father.

Uasin Gishu County police commander Ali Gitonga said both the suspect and the deceased had bruises, an indication that they may have fought.

Gitonga said the suspect was being held at Langas Police Station for interrogation.
